How do I enter?

THE 2013 PRIZE IS CLOSED FOR ENTRY

STEP 1: University Jury Process
Each Institute recognised architecture school will identify relevant design studio programs and advise students that work within these programs will be assessed for possible entry into the prize.

Each school, dependent on enrolled student numbers, will select one or two finalists to be considered by the National Jury based on the studio work within the preceding year. Finalist numbers from each university will be determined as follows:

  1. Schools with less than 500 students enrolled may select one finalist from their total entries.
  2. Schools with 500 or more students enrolled may select up to two finalists from their total entries.

Selection procedures and jury members can be at the discretion of each architecture school, but entries must be judged on the entry criteria outlined in the prize conditions.

STEP 2: Submission
Each school will submit their finalist’s work via the online entry form. All schools will be provided with log in details, if you have not received these please email prizes@architecture.com.au.

STEP 3: National Jury
A national jury will select the final prize winner from the finalists. This jury will consist of:

  • Glenn Murcutt or his nominee
  • The Australian Institute of Architects National President or nominee
  • The SONA National President or nominee

Selection Criteria
The selection criteria used by both the University and National juries shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Degree of complexity of the program.
  • Sensitivity and communication of response to place and environment.
  • Practicality of approach to technology and feasibility of construction demonstrating an appreciation of buildability, structure and services requirements.
  • Sensitivity of response and relevance to Australian culture.

The National Jury will provide comment upon each winning or short listed entry giving the reasons for its decision. The written report of the national jury will be published with the announcement of the prize winner. The decision of the jury is final.

STEP 4: Online Voting Competition & Gallery
Finalists will be placed in an online voting gallery from March – May   2013. During this time each Institute/SONA member may cast a single vote for their preferred winner of the prize.

The finalist who receives the most votes will be awarded cash prize of $1000 and a certificate from SONA. All Institute/SONA members who participate in the electronic voting competition are eligible to win a cash prize of $1000. The winner of this prize will be randomly selected by a computer system.

Australian Institute of Architects/SONA members who are put forward by their University for consideration by the national jury will be unable to participate in the electronic voting process open to Institute/SONA members.
