From the Chapter Chair

Greetings once again to all Institute members around the world.

July has been a very busy month for the International Chapter Council members with the conduct of our annual  face-to-face planning workshop, held in Singapore 20-21 July and the announcement and presentation of the 2018 International Chapter Architecture Awards.

This year we were delighted to welcome the Institute’s National President, Clare Cousins and General Manager, Chapter Operations, Kim Hilliard to the meeting and Awards event. We sincerely thank Clare for her valuable contribution to our discussions and planning for 2019 and beyond and to Kim and her team in Australia, for their work coordinating the planning workshop and the very successful Awards event.

We also wish to extend a very warm thank you to Bruce Gosper, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore and his team for hosting the 2018 International Chapter Architecture Awards event at his impressive Singapore home. Over 70 guests enjoyed the opportunity to be part of this prestigious event, and to network with colleagues and friends. My congratulations are extended to the four 2018 Award winners and the two commendation recipients and of course a special congratulations to Dr Liu Thai Ker, who was presented with the William J Mitchell International Chapter Prize, in recognition of the significant contribution he has made to architecture globally. As the Institute’s newest chapter, we are determined to raise the profile of our International engagement in line with the Institute’s 2018-2020 Strategic Plan priorities. Work is already well underway on the development of an international engagement strategy, with Justin Hill who is a National Council representative on the Institute’s Board, chairing the working group. More details regarding this will be provided later this year. The Chapter Council members are also busy planning a follow up Dubai Boarding Pass event for November and a possible Hong Kong Boarding Pass event in December. Next year we plan to expand our offerings with similar events in other regions.

Thank you and I look forward to providing further updates next month.

Thanks and regards,
Paul Logsdon FRAIA
