Greetings to all International Institute members around the world.

For those members based in the UAE regions, I hope to see you at the 14 November Dubai Boarding Pass event being held during the 2018 Dubai Design Week festivities. We are delighted to also welcome and extend a warm thank you to our event partner Schiavello International, for hosting our second UAE member and colleague’s networking event. The event will feature a Pecha-Kucha style presentation with a number of notable speakers including representatives from RMJM, S2 Interiors, GHD, BH-NS, Dubai Expo 2020, Dubai Institute of Design & Innovation (DIDI), Edge Design and WSP Dubai.

Congratulations are also extended to the winners of 12 named awards, 20 national awards and eight national commendations at the 2018 National Architecture Awards, which were held last Thursday night in Melbourne.  Click for further information

The International Architecture category was hotly contested with four shortlisted projects, namely: School-in-a-Box by Stephen Collier Architects; New Wings at The Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore, GreenhilLi Architecture + Design; The Australian Embassy Bangkok by BVN; and House 412 by Pulina Ponnamperuma + Robust Architecture Workshop.

And the winners are: The Jørn Utzon Award – Australian Embassy Bangkok by BVN (Thailand) and the Australian Award – School-in-a-Box by Stephen Collier Architects (PNG). On behalf of all International members, congratulations. These awards are a testament to the design excellence, and professional ingenuity of Australian members practicing overseas.

Plans are already well underway for the 2019 International Chapter Architecture Awards with entries opening on 15 November 2018. The 2019 Awards program will also include a new award for Emerging Architects. The inaugural International Chapter Emerging Architects Prize will recognise an individual emerging architect or architectural collaboration’s contribution to architecture practice, education, design excellence and community involvement, which advances the professions standing in the public arena. The prize will be open to international members of the Institute. Further information about the 2019 Awards and Prizes program will be provided in next month’s Member E-News.
