The striking design was inspired by the 12-sided Round House in Fremantle and the 209 irregular shaped pieces of Christopher Monckton’s Eternity Puzzle. Open House Perth presents Moana Chambers

Where: Hay Street Mall, 618 Hay Street, Perth

and
Thu 8 May, 12noon – 12.40pm (tour 2)

The Moana Chambers reside on the Hay Street Mall in Perth city. A turn of the century building group, the Chambers housed tea rooms and a supper club during the early 1900s and have worn several guises over the years since. Referred to as the Connor Quinlan building, incorporating the Tobacconists on the corner of Barrack and Hay, the building was considered one of the finest of the Federation Free Classical style in the Commonwealth.

Despite its significance, the upper floor – a high-ceilinged dining hall – had been laid waste for a decade. In 2011, Post-Architecture and Spacemarket, worked closely with the City of Perth, to see the space released back into the public realm, with the creation and tenanting of a cutting edge gallery, a café and a co-working space. Moana Chambers is a great destination for those interested in the history. Read more

@ SCALE exhibition

Where: QV1 Foyer, 250 St Georges Terrace, Perth
When: Mon 5 May – Fri 16 May
Opening event Wed 7 May, 6pm – 8pm
Cost:
Free (RSVP for opening event by 5 May)

On public display at QV1 Perth, this exhibition will feature established and emerging Australian designers working across multiple creative fields of urban design, architecture, visual arts, furniture and object design.

@ SCALE presents questions on how designers pursue common themes or ideas through scale, translating the experience of the intimate through to the experience of the vast. How consistent is the process in designing objects of various magnitudes through the making of scaled or real size models, maquettes or prototypes? This exploration is famously depicted by Ray and Charles Eames in their seminal film the Powers of Ten, conceptualising this adventure in magnitudes, depicting the relative scale of the environment in which we work.
