Last week we released the shortlist for the 2014 National Architecture Awards and were thrilled to see strong coverage of the announcement in the media.

To be able to promote architecture of the standard evident in all awards entries goes to the heart of the Institute’s awards program. It celebrates architects by showcasing their work, and presents an opportunity for public and peer recognition.

With this in mind, we are launching a People’s Choice Award in the lead up to the National Architecture Awards presentation, held in Darwin on 6 November. This is a public outreach social media campaign that we hope will build engagement with and interest in our awards program and with architecture more generally. It will focus on projects shortlisted in our various Residential Award categories.

The People’s Choice Awards will run through October, with the winner announced at the end of the month. You can follow and engage with the People’s Choice Award via our Instagram account (@institute_architects_aus) and Facebook page.

This week, Boarding Pass jets off. This international engagement program is themed ‘Australian architects abroad’ and features a panel discussion at RIBA in London, led by International Area Committee member Dik Jarman and featuring 2013 Gold Medallist Peter Wilson, architects Robert Grace and Fiona Nixon. It also includes an international leg of the Gold Medal Tour, with 2014 Gold Medallists Phil Harris and Adrian Welke from Troppo Architects taking on Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. More information about Boarding Pass here.

For those of us at home, there is still time to catch the Gold Medal Tour in Australia, which visits Perth this week, and other major cities in October. Check the website for dates in your region. The tour concludes on 7 November with the AS Hook Address in Darwin, as part of the AusIndoArch conference.
