We are very pleased to welcome Rotterdam-based architect, Mechthild Stuhlmacher, to our shores. Mechthild has joined us as our latest Droga Architect in Residence – a program of the Australian Institute of Architects Foundation.

While in residence, Mechthild will research the relationship between inside and outside, buildings and context, and architecture and landscape, to the design of well working, ‘healthy’ buildings for care and education-related programs.

Mechthild is presenting seminars in Sydney, Melbourne and Launceston in the coming weeks. I highly recommend taking the opportunity to hear this inspiring architect and advocate speak about healing architecture, and the relationship between architecture and landscape. You can read more about the program here.

I’m also very pleased to see many opportunities for the Institute to engage effectively with both members and the community.

First, the Competition Policy Review Task Group is seeking to consult with members through a Competition Policy Reference Group. The Task Group was established by National Council in March 2014 to review and revise the Institute’s Architectural Competitions Policy, and the Competitions Guidelines that provide the basis for Institute endorsement of architectural competitions. If you’re interested in being part of this Reference Group, please read on for more information.

Second, the Acumen Content Review Panel (ACRP) wants your feedback on our Acumen practice advisory material. Please help us ensure that Acumen continues to be an exceptionally valuable resource for all members by completing this survey. It should take less than five minutes and is a valuable next step in getting a broader view of your experience and expectations with the service.

Finally, as announced last week, today sees the public launch of the ask an architect promotional program. This is a great new initiative that is designed to increase public awareness of architects, the program is particularly focused on the residential consumer market and will provide opportunities for potential clients to engage with all of our members.

We will keep you informed about these opportunities in coming weeks.

Kind regards,

David Karotkin
