Selection Process

Presentation to Jury Days

An important part of the selection process is your presentation to the awards jury. Individual timed presentation slots will be assigned following the submission closing date, however please note the main presentation dates below to ensure you are available.

The 2016 NSW presentation days are Wednesday 23 March and Thursday 24 March. Applicants will be notified of their allocated presentation time as soon as possible after award entries close.

Residential – Houses categories: You will be allocated 5 minutes to present with a 2 minute-to-finish warning.
All other categories: You will be allocated 8 minutes to present with a 2 minute-to-finish warning.

As your time is limited, a simple and well-rehearsed presentation style may make all the difference. Please ensure you refer to the selection criteria below when considering what to include in your talk and accompanying digital presentation, and the guidance notes to ensure this meets technical requirements.

Note that the Newcastle Awards has a different selection process, and does not require entrants to present prior to site visits

NSW selection process

  • All entries are required to present their project in a public forum – Presentation to Juries.
  • After presentations have occurred, the relevant jury will select the projects that they wish to visit. Selected projects are visited for 20 minutes only. The site visits are coordinated by the Awards Manager but arranged by the architect with their client. The architect and/or client are required to be on site. If the project is located in regional NSW a majority of jurors will attend the site visit.
  • After site visits are completed the relevant jury will determine a shortlist. Visitation by the jury does not guarantee inclusion on this shortlist.
  • Following further deliberation the relevant jury will recommend projects for awards from the shortlist. Award winners are announced at the NSW Architecture Awards Presentation Night at the end of June.
  • Named Award and Award winners progress to be considered by the National Awards Jury.
