2013 Regional Architecture Conferencehosted by the Queensland Chapter, Australian Institute of Architects
5 – 7 September 2013
The inaugural regional conference, hosted by the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland chapter, will extend the ground covered by the 2012 National Architecture Conference – Experience by focusing upon the unique opportunities commonly available to architects practising regionally, responding to the unique ‘Spirit of Place’. The conference will be the first of a biennial program of Queensland Regional Architecture Conferences, providing considerable opportunities for the Institute’s regional members.
Creative Director Stephen de Jersey is a practicing architect in the regional city of Townsville. As is normal for regional practice, his project work has been diverse in typology, however, responding to the locality has remained at the core of design thinking.
In recent times, the effect of distance has been dramatically changed with the advent of immediate communications systems as well as cost effective travel. Regional communities can now be serviced in a multitude of different ways.
An illustrious set of keynote speakers, whose work responds to this mandate, has been invited. In addition, there will be a rich range of associated tours and events that will explore the extraordinary locality of the beautiful Cairns region.
