The 2019 EmAGN & SONA Bar Tour

As part of the National Architecture Conference Collective Agency

What better way to see the best of Melbourne’s architectural hospitality designs than on the arm of a local?  At this year’s National Architecture Conference Collective Agency, EmAGN and SONA are coming together once again in 2019 to host the Conference Fringe favourite, the EmAGN and SONA Bar tour.

The tour will take place throughout Melbourne’s CBD, visiting the design bars of choice and featuring design professionals to showcase the work along the way.  Tour groups will be a comfortable 20 people per group.  All groups will start and finish the night together but will embark on their own smaller group tours in between, so all can experience the larger rooftops and niche boutique bars on offer.

Participants will be communicated closer to the date with maps and venue details highlighted.

Date: Friday 21 June
Time:  6.30pm – 10pm

Walsh Street Design Tour

‘Walsh Street’, the house Boyd designed for his own family in 1957, is his most well-known work. It has been extensively published both nationally and internationally as an exemplar of modernist Australian architecture and a house that continues to influence architectural thinking. It is now the home of the Robin Boyd Foundation.

The Design Tour begins with a talk about Robin Boyd and his lasting influence, along with an insight into the design of the Walsh Street house. Guests are then free to explore the house within the 2-hour session. A complimentary cup of tea or coffee will be provided.

Additional places have been made available for both tours. Book now to secure your spot.

Award winning project tour – New Academic Street RMIT University

The underlying vision of the project is to dramatically transform the student experience for RMIT students at the very centre of the University’s city campus.

The precinct was characterised by a number of 1960’s building, affectionately referred to in Melbourne as the ‘grey ghosts’ (being concrete and concrete block) and with largely blank facades onto Swanston Street. The student experience was assessed by the University (and by student surveys) as extremely poor, including poor wayfinding, lack of natural light, access challenges, and a main campus library that was not meeting the contemporary needs of student learning spaces.

Time: 9:00 – 10:00am
