My parents were rather persuasive.<\/p>\n

What are you working on now?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A series of residential projects from the small scale low budget reno\u2019s to a highly polished solar passive concrete and zinc new build.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Most challenging or interesting project you\u2019ve ever worked on and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tough one! Doesn\u2019t every project you work on seem a bit more challenging than the last as you strive to find the best solution whilst also meeting the increasing number of guidelines, regulations and box-ticking exercises?<\/p>\n

My interest seems to be sparked when a client\u2019s brief is completely non-conformist. The shipping container lookalike cantilevering over an untouched ex-govie will always sit high on the \u2018interesting\u2019 list.<\/p>\n

Who is your role model?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I admire lots of people, but I don\u2019t know anyone that\u2019s perfect.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Any advice for young architects just starting their career?<\/strong><\/p>\n

You learn more when you interact with other people. A random conversation with an extraordinary architect doesn\u2019t happen if you go home and watch reality television. I\u2019m very grateful for the numerous encounters I have had with Australia\u2019s leading practitioners, and the advice and stories that they have shared.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is your favourite piece of art?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have a massive artwork of a chicken on the wall at home. She is poised in a moment of contemplation. The background is black and endless. She is going places in her mind that are beyond the average chickens reach. Her next step could lead her anywhere.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What do you see as one of the biggest issues facing the architectural profession? <\/strong><\/p>\n

TIME. Everyone seems to no longer afford time to learn, explore, share stories, research and play with architecture outside of office hours.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you weren\u2019t an architect, what do you think you would be doing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Landscape Architecture. I still might.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is your most underrated talent?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Helping a cow give birth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is the most used app on your phone?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is the alarm clock an app? If not, the calculator.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What are you addicted to?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sultanas.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What do you wish you were told before starting in this profession?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be prepared to be consumed by it.<\/p>\n

Ranga\u2019s. And real ones; not those dyed wannabees.<\/p>\n
