{"id":13897,"date":"2016-10-04T12:17:52","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T01:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/?p=13897"},"modified":"2017-12-15T12:12:06","modified_gmt":"2017-12-15T01:12:06","slug":"from-the-sa-chapter-manager-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/from-the-sa-chapter-manager-2\/","title":{"rendered":"From the SA Chapter Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/06\/SA_Chapter_Manager_Nicolette_160px.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7645\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/06\/SA_Chapter_Manager_Nicolette_160px.jpg\" alt=\"SA_Chapter_Manager_Nicolette_160px\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/06\/SA_Chapter_Manager_Nicolette_160px.jpg 160w, https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/06\/SA_Chapter_Manager_Nicolette_160px-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 160px) 100vw, 160px\" \/><\/a><strong>4 October<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would like to introduce Vanessa Thamm who joined the SA Chapter just over a month ago as the Communications and Special Projects Officer.\u00a0 With a background in State and Local government, she also has strong policy and advocacy skills.\u00a0 It is great to have her on board.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At a time when the SA Chapter is preparing responses to the 30 Year Plan update, the Local Heritage Discussion Paper and issues arising from changes to government procurement Vanessa\u2019s presence is timely.\u00a0 It provides the Chapter with greater ability to support our members in responding to issues that directly affect the profession.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In parallel with this advocacy work the Chapter continues to be active in raising public awareness of design and the value it provides.\u00a0 The program for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fad.org.au\/about-the-program\"><strong>SPACE \u2013 Tours Through Architecture<\/strong><\/a> provides access to a range of projects and precincts.\u00a0 This provides the profession with a powerful opportunity to explain the complex synthesis of information that informs design thinking and leads to well resolved built outcomes.\u00a0 It allows us to demonstrate that architecture is about more than aesthetics.\u00a0 It\u2019s about innovative and effective responses to clients\u2019 needs within the context of environmental, technological, economic and regulatory factors.\u00a0 It\u2019s about exceeding client expectations and showing them the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPACE<\/strong> is being delivered as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/\">Open State Festival<\/a>.\u00a0 The Institute has been asked to curate the Future Cities stream of the Festival and is proud to be coordinating events on the 25<sup>th<\/sup> and 26<sup>th<\/sup> of October that explore a range of propositions relating to the future of the city.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/futureforummodulation.eventbrite.com.au\"><strong>Future Forum \u2013 Modulation<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/futureforumwhatstheplan.eventbrite.com.au\"><strong>Future Forum \u2013 Future Transport<\/strong><\/a> will be delivered by the SA Chapter as part of this program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Open State provides a platform for government, professionals and the public to engage in a collective debate regarding the complex factors that shape cities.\u00a0 Once again, it provides the profession with an opportunity to broaden the understanding of what architects do and how our training and expertise can add value in ways that those outside the profession may not be aware of.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The third publicly focused activity is <strong>Architecture on Show<\/strong>.
