{"id":16291,"date":"2017-06-26T15:10:46","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T05:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/?p=16291"},"modified":"2019-07-15T14:41:39","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T04:41:39","slug":"the-pool-to-make-a-splash-at-ngv-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/the-pool-to-make-a-splash-at-ngv-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pool to make a splash at NGV Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in Australia, <strong>The Pool: Architecture, Culture and Identity<\/strong>, Australia\u2019s exhibition at the 2016 Venice Biennale, will be on display for local audiences in a special exhibit at NGV Australia in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in August, the immersive exhibition will explore public space as a vital component to society using one of Australia\u2019s greatest cultural symbols \u2013 the pool.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian exhibition in Venice, presented by the Australian Institute of Architects and curated by Aileen Sage Architects (Isabelle Toland and Amelia Holliday) with Michelle Tabet, used the pool as a lens through which to explore Australian cultural identity.<\/p>\n<p>The Pool become Australia\u2019s most visited exhibition on record with over 100,000 visitors during its May &#8211; November showing at the Australian Pavilion in Venice.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to a physical pool complete with decking and custom-designed chairs, the multi-sensory installation will include narratives from eight prominent cultural leaders who shared their personal stories as part of the original exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Pool: Architecture, Culture and Identity<\/strong> will be on display from 18 Aug 2017 &#8211; Feb 2018 at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Federation Square, Melbourne. Entry is free.
