Seven teams have progressed to stage two of the Australian Institute of Architects\u2019 search for the Creative Director of the Australian Exhibition at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale.
\n<\/p>\n

The shortlist, which comprises a record number of submissions, was selected by the Institute\u2019s Venice Biennale Committee (VBC) led by Immediate Past President and Venice Biennale Commissioner Brian Zulaikha.<\/p>\n

Shortlisted entries are:<\/b>
\nUnder Construction<\/b> – Dr Elizabeth Farrelly, Grace Mortlock, David Neustein and Dan Hill with Other Architects and Fabrica (NSW)
\nAugmented Australia 1914-2014<\/b> – felix. + Sophie Giles & Simon Anderson (WA)
\nFlatpack Pavilion<\/b> – Zanny Begg, Chris Fox, Helen Lochhead and John Choi (NSW)
\nOpenings<\/b> \u00ad- Andrew Burns \/ Mark Gowing \/ Brett Boardman (NSW)
\nDistinctions + Contradictions, At Home with Australian Architecture<\/b> by Associate Professor Jay Younger, Lindy Johnson, Elizabeth Watson Brown, Jennifer Taylor (Advisor), and Tony Gooley Design (QLD)
\nBetween<\/b> – FloodSlicer and Two4K (VIC)
\nThe Peephole Hoarding<\/b> – The AU: Monica Earl, Daniel Fink, Tamara Frangelli, Nic Moore, Gabriele Ulacco with Suzanne Boccalatte of Boccalatte (NSW)<\/p>\n

For the next stage of the competition each team will further develop their proposal and present to the VBC on June 6. The appointed Creative Director Team will be announced in July.<\/p>\n

The 2014 International Architecture Exhibition Creative Director, Rem Koolhaas has selected the theme Fundamentals<\/i> for the 14th Architecture Biennale which will run from 7 June to 23 November, 2014.<\/p>\n

\u2018Fundamentals<\/i> will be a Biennale about architecture, not architects. After several Biennales dedicated to the celebration of the contemporary, Fundamentals<\/i> will focus on histories – on the inevitable elements of all architecture used by any architect, anywhere, anytime and on the evolution of national architectures in the last 100 years,\u2019 said Mr Koolhaas.<\/p>\n

Australia has been successfully represented at the Biennale since 2006, a major initiative of the Australian Institute of Architects, and is a vital part in the promotion of Australian architecture to the international architecture and design community with thousands of the world\u2019s most influential architects, designers, urban planners, developers and critics visiting the Biennale.<\/p>\n
