It was great to be able to stop off on the way meeting\nwith local Ministers, members of Parliament, local governments and key\nstakeholders. There was a common theme throughout these meetings, housing,\nhousing and housing! Interesting though, there is there is a lot of economic\nactivity in the regions and they expect this growth across multiple industries.\nThis is really good to hear since Darwin is tracking very slowly economically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February we had the opportunity to host an <strong>industry breakfast<\/strong> with Minister Lawler\nto run through the governments vision of where we are heading in terms the\nengagement of architects. She was very frank about where things are at the\nmoment in government and took on board our strategic platforms including the\nGovernment Architect role, procurement and the importance of good design for\nall projects especially in regard to future performance.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also met the Minister for Housing Gerry McCarthy, in Tennant Creek, and\nhe is keen to work with the Institute further involve Architects in the housing\nrole out, across the NT, as he is concerned about long-term performance of\nnon-architecturally designed public housing especially in remote communities. We\nwill be meeting with him and the Department over the next month to see what\nthis will looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February we had 5 events across the NT which includes the ramp up of <strong>EmAGN RegiFrustration<\/strong> events. We have a vibrant committed group who have regular mentoring with the ultimate goal of registration. If you would like to be a Mentor please contact us and we can make this happen.\u00a0 The <strong>SONA<\/strong> membership and sign up event is coming up on the 13<sup>th<\/sup> of March so if you can spare some time at lunch please feel free to come to CDU for the meet and greet (orange building 11 at casuarina campus). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The build up to the <strong>2019 Northern\nTerritory Awards<\/strong> is well and truly underway and we recommend you look at your travel now\nto the Red Centre. We are working through Tourism NT for partner programs as\nwell as Architectural tours. This is a destination event so bring your family\nand you can immerse in your passion for Architecture in an amazing part of the\nNT. This is the first time the awards are being held in Alice Springs and we\nneed you to show support for the region and your colleagues who usually travel\nto Darwin for these events. If you haven\u2019t <strong>already<\/strong> please put this in\nyour diary <strong>now<\/strong>. The program outline is: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2019 Northern Territory Awards Programme <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">30<sup>th<\/sup> May CPD\nfor Alice Springs Architects \u2013 delivery partner Bondor <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">working lunch session\n12-1pm <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">31<sup>st<\/sup> May Architecture\ntours morning Heritage tour 8.30 to 12 and the afternoon Previous award winners\n12.30 to 4pm <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">31<sup>st<\/sup> May VIP\ncocktail party for attendees hosted by the Mayor Damien Ryan and the Alice\nSprings Town Council 5.30pm <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1<sup>st<\/sup> June 2019\nAwards \u2013 the Old Quarry south of Alice pick up 5pm &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2<sup>nd<\/sup> June\nrecovery networking lunch 1pm <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>2019 Northern Territory\nAwards Entries<\/strong> are closing on the 13<sup>th<\/sup> March 2019 if you have any queries\nplease feel free to give us a call. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our membership drive is going well with three Architects in the process\nof signing up. Thanks for those people who sent through referrals we are slowly\nworking through these. As previously mentioned we encourage you to identify\npotential members and then work with us to confirm their <strong>membership<\/strong>.\nWhen new members join and are financial then we are also offering the \u2018one off\u2019\nbenefit for 2019 which is that a person can become a member and will be\neligible to enter in the same year. As motivation for introductions we are\noffering the referring member an incentive so watch this space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February we\nhad a busy <strong>advocacy <\/strong>month meeting\nwith Ministers, Mayors and local Government representatives, local members and\nother key stakeholders. The feedback from regional areas was a big thank you to\ntravelling there taking the time to hear and see issues outside of Darwin. I\ntold them we don\u2019t believe in the Berrimah line so all good! This month we also\nsubmitted our response to the <strong>Central\nDarwin Area Plan<\/strong> and this available on our website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year we\nwould like to grow our <strong>partnership<\/strong>\nopportunities to support Architect practice and development in the NT. Please\nkeep this in mind when you are talking to suppliers and send through a referral\nany time.
