The Toyota WA Head Office by Roxby Architects has taken out the highest\u00a0overall honour, the George Temple Poole Award, at the Australian Institute of\u00a0Architects\u2019 WA Architecture Awards.<\/p>\n
Honouring excellence in the design and construction industry, the Awards were\u00a0held on Thursday 3 July at the Grand Ballroom at Crown.<\/p>\n
Institute State President Philip Griffiths said the Awards are an important event\u00a0for the architectural industry and the broader community as a whole.<\/p>\n
\u2018The Architecture Awards represent a rare opportunity each year for a large\u00a0number of Western Australian architects to show their design capabilities to their\u00a0colleagues, industry and, most importantly to the public. Judgement by one\u2019s\u00a0peers is a high bar and the fact that people are prepared to nominate their\u00a0projects in competition with their colleagues indicates that there is a great deal of\u00a0respect for the awards in the profession.\u2019<\/p>\n
Presented each year to the project judged most worthy of all the award winners\u00a0in each category, the George Temple Poole jury viewed an impressive array of\u00a0outstanding architecture in determining this year\u2019s award.<\/p>\n
\u2018The Toyota Head Office in Kewdale is a sophisticated design response to the\u00a0purpose specific client brief. The architects have responded in an elegant manner\u00a0to the brief that provides a landmark site within one of WA\u2019s largest industrial\u00a0areas,\u2019 the jury noted in awarding the Toyota WA Head Office.<\/p>\n
\u2018The subtle design intent driven by the client\u2019s brand philosophies, in particular\u00a0the commitment toward sustainability was well integrated into the building, and\u00a0this was clearly legible across the design.\u2019<\/p>\n
The Toyota WA Head Office also took out the Ross Chisholm and Gil Nicol\u00a0Award For Commercial Architecture in the Commercial Architecture Category.<\/p>\n
Fremantle kitchen and bakery Bread in Common also featured prominently in\u00a0the Awards, taking out the Margaret Pitt Morison Award For Heritage, the\u00a0Architecture Award in the Commercial Architecture category, the Julius\u00a0Elischer Award for Interior Architecture and the Mondoluce Lighting\u00a0Award.<\/p>\n
All Western Australian Named and Architecture Award winners will progress to the\u00a0Australian Insitute of Architects National Awards to be held in November.<\/p>\n
