{"id":4228,"date":"2014-07-25T09:16:04","date_gmt":"2014-07-24T23:16:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/?p=4228"},"modified":"2019-07-15T14:39:41","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T04:39:41","slug":"international-area-committee-recognises-projects-abroad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/international-area-committee-recognises-projects-abroad\/","title":{"rendered":"International Area Committee recognises projects abroad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Institute of Architects\u2019 International Area Committee Jury has announced the winners of the 2014 International Architecture Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the National Architecture Awards program, the International Awards celebrate the work of Australian architects abroad and the 2014 winners were chosen from a field of 24 entries, recognised in project categories for the first time this year.<\/p>\n<p>Five awards and six commendations spanning public, residential, commercial, interior and small project architecture were given by the eminent jury led by 2013 Institute Gold Medallist, Peter Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>Denton Corker Marshall\u2019s Stonehenge Exhibition + Visitor Centre received an Award for Public Architecture. \u2018This is a building that does justice to a UNESCO World Heritage site; its lightness and reversibility giving dignity to the solidity and timelessness of the standing stones 2.4 km away beyond the horizon,\u2019 Jury Chair Peter Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>Two Public Architecture Commendations were presented to Binus Kindergarten and Primary School by Denton Corker Marshall Jakarta (PT Duta Cermat Mandiri) and Phoenix Valley Youth Palace &amp; Grand Theatre by studio505.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry Hill Architects dominated the Residential Architecture category receiving an Award for The Sukhothai Residences in Bangkok and a Commendation for Urban Suites.<\/p>\n<p>WOHA\u2019s highly acclaimed PARKROYAL on Pickering, Singapore was further applauded with an Award for Commercial Architecture, \u2018achieving a fine balance of the natural and the cultural,\u2019 the jury expressed.<\/p>\n<p>The Interior Architecture category belonged to BVN Donovan Hill with the jury presenting ASB North Wharf an Award and recognising the Regional Terminal at Christchurch Airport, a joint development between Air New Zealand and Christchurch International Airport and completed in association with Jasmax, with a Commendation.<\/p>\n<p>Shelter@Rainforest by Marra and Yeh Architects was considered by the jury as an \u2018ideal recipient\u2019 of an Award for Small Project Architecture, while \u2018boasting an exemplary list of ecological and environmental credentials\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>A Commendation for Small Project Architecture was presented to Brearley Architects + Urbanists (B.A.U.) for the Kunshan Modular Pavilions.<\/p>\n<p>The five projects honoured with an International Award now progress to the National Architecture Awards, (announced November 6 in Darwin), and will compete in the international category, vying for the J\u00f8rn Utzon Award for International Architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Full list of winners:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Award \u2013<\/strong> Stonehenge Exhibition + Visitor Centre by Denton Corker Marshall<br \/>\n<strong>Commendation \u2013<\/strong> Binus Kindergarten and Primary School by Denton Corker Marshall Jakarta (PT Duta Cermat Mandiri)<br \/>\n<strong>Commendation \u2013<\/strong> Phoenix Valley Youth Palace &amp;
