{"id":7325,"date":"2015-04-22T11:52:48","date_gmt":"2015-04-22T00:52:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/?p=7325"},"modified":"2019-07-15T14:40:28","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T04:40:28","slug":"making-a-splash-creative-team-selected-for-2016-venice-biennale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/making-a-splash-creative-team-selected-for-2016-venice-biennale\/","title":{"rendered":"Making a splash \u2013 creative team selected for 2016 Venice Biennale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of Australia\u2019s great cultural symbols will form the foundation of the Australian Exhibition at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Pool<\/em> by Aileen Sage and Michelle Tabet was chosen by the Australian Institute of Architects\u2019 Venice Biennale Committee for its \u2018incisive interest in the connections between landscape, culture and architecture as observed through the frame of a singular architectural and landscape typology\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will be transported poolside through an immersive multi-sensory experience within the new Denton Corker Marshall-designed pavilion. Light, scent, sound, reflection and perspective will create a series of perceptual illusions, bringing to Venice a suggestion of a particular Australian architectural condition.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7346\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7346\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7346\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res-300x150.jpeg\" alt=\"The Pool by Aileen Sage and Michelle Tabet\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res-300x150.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res-150x75.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res-1024x512.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res-685x343.jpeg 685w, https:\/\/wp.architecture.com.au\/news-media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/04\/The-Pool_Low-Res.jpeg 1417w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Pool by Aileen Sage and Michelle Tabet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Some of Australia\u2019s most remarkable pools \u2013 be they natural or manmade, inland or coastal, temporary or permanent \u2013 will also be profiled as part of the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018From pools of necessity to the pools of excess, the pool is a key architectural device, a memory and also a setting. It has the unique ability to evoke both the sacred and the profane and also aptly represents a distinctively Australian democratic and social space &#8211; a great leveller of difference,\u2019 the Creative Directors said.<\/p>\n<p>Aileen Sage is a Sydney based architectural practice founded by Isabelle Toland and Amelia Holliday. The pair teamed up with Michelle Tabet, an urban strategist heading up her own boutique consulting practice, to develop the winning concept. The Creative Directors have also assembled an extended pool of cross-disciplinary collaborators to inform, refine and complement their skills and technical knowledge including Senior Advisor, Olivia Hyde.<\/p>\n<p>Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore congratulated the team on their success.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I am delighted that this talented team of female architects and specialists will represent Australia at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale. I have no doubt that Isabelle, Amelia, Michelle and Olivia will deliver an impressive entry for this prestigious event.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Isabelle and Amelia have already made an invaluable contribution to Sydney\u2019s public architecture through their work with Neeson Murcutt Architects on our award-winning Prince Alfred Park and Pool and we are excited to have this project showcased internationally as part of the exhibition,\u2019 Ms Moore said.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Biennale sees the inaugural architecture exhibition in the new Australian Pavilion, which opens in May 2015. The Institute has coordinated Australia\u2019s presence at the Biennale Architettura since 2006. Australia\u2019s previous exhibitions have attracted large audiences during the Biennale and then gone on to tour globally.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The exhibition is supported by City of Sydney, Austral Bricks, Smeg, Caf\u00e9 di Stasio and Architecture Media.
