Stage 02 &#8211; Room 11\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Project summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GASP! Stage 02 is the penultimate gesture of the Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park (GASP!). As established in GASP! Stage 01, the architecture responds to the scale of the surrounding landform. Blunt forms frame and command the superlative Tasmanian landscape. Colour and architecture have been used as a vehicle for reevaluation and reappreciation of place. The re-forming of the shoreline embraces the expanse of Montrose Bay, which becomes integral to the experience; a unity is created. GASP! Stage 02 offers a particular reading of a given context. We hope this reading will promote a reevaluation of the importance of urban landscapes that fall outside of the wild and well-lauded Tasmanian landscapes that are more commonly attributed value. GASP! provides a new walking and cycling destination for the northern suburbs of Hobart, linking in with the intercity cycleway that carries through to the centre of the capital. It is a new piece of green infrastructure, which has been warmly embraced by its local community. The pavilion is a confident piece of structural engineering with a 12 metre cantilever adjacent a 17 metre clear span.
