The Leven Centre is located in Ulverstone, Tasmania. The project is a joint venture between the Federal Government, University of Tasmania and the Mt St Vincent Nursing Home and Therapy Centre. The new stand-alone facility provides the North West Coast with a dedicated teaching, community and aged care support facility, increasing student and local support resources and broadening the range of professional education, dementia and palliative care opportunities. A complex brief called for a mix of flexible shared community and teaching spaces, mixed media teleconference facilities and private office and research areas to accommodate the needs of a wide range of potential end users. The building meets these needs with a deceptively pared back but accommodating spatial arrangement. The program is arranged with large public spaces focussing\u00a0on\u00a0the river views, smaller private spaces focussing on\u00a0a sheltered courtyard and a central corridor providing a connection between the two. Light from high-level windows\/skylights casts ever-changing patterns throughout the circulation zone and reflects across polished concrete floors below.<\/p>\n
