Visiting mid-week, for a twilight Little Athletics meet, the streets and car parks are full. Crowds of children and parents fill the space with an intense, positive ambiance. The pavilion, set in a sea of colorful family tents, has the all-important kitchen and kiosk at its center. This space offers a prime view of the athletics track for volunteer staff, so they miss none of the excitement.. This design ensures volunteers, so necessary for successful community events, are considered and included, so the pavilion sits easily within its social context as well as the landscape. Efficient and generous, it contributes to the myriad of activities it generates without demanding attention itself. The quiet efficiency is the mark of an elegant response to the architectural brief. The obvious enjoyment of the users is equally due to the effective organisation of the community group, and a design that focuses and supports their efforts.

Architect

Dock4 Architects

Contractors

Maveric Builders

Consultants

Structural Engineer – JMG Engineers & Planners

Quantity Surveyor – Stehel Consultants

Building Surveyor – Holdfast Building Surveying

Photographers

Adam Gibson

Andrew Knott

Stuart Gibson

People’s Choice Prize

Vote now for this entry

1 Scone Street | Bento Box | Bonnet Hill Residences | Break O’Day Community Stadium | Brickworks Design Studio | Clarence High School Sports Pavilion | Devil’s Corner | Dunalley House | Five Yards House | Garden Pavilion – Homage to a Benzoline Lighthouse | Hatherley House Garden Pavilions | Horse Shoe House | Jenny’s House | Last Workshop & Apartment Battery, Point | New Town House | (re)barn | Sofia Otto’s Playground | Stornoway | The Corner Store | The Leven Centre | The Student Lounge | Three Capes Track Cabins | Trinity Hill Youth Accommodation & Training Facility | UTAS – Student Centre | UTAS, Tasmanian School of Business and Economics – Centenary Building | UTAS Inveresk Residences | Vodafone Contact Centre Hobart

Clarence High School Sports Pavilion Tasmania’s Clarence School Sports Grounds and their Pavilion seem a vital and well geared machine.
