\u2018Laroona\u2019 was built in 1920 and displays elements of the Federation Arts and Crafts style.<\/p>\n
The philosophy of the design was to maintain the integrity of the original house but to increase natural light to the kitchen and dining rooms, which had been altered without heritage consideration.<\/p>\n
The client, an artist, was very much focused on detail, and her collaboration in the design and production of leadlight, joinery pulls, fittings and the courtyard fence gives the project a tremendous depth and continues the approach of the Arts and Crafts style.<\/p>\n
Materials and proportions are derived from the original but have been finished or detailed in a contemporary manner so as to differentiate them. These include stonework, pressed metal, timber windows, fireplace, exposure of brickwork and roof form.<\/p>\n
Conserving the original fabric was a priority and the final spaces have brought back an old-world charm, which has enabled an appreciation of the house’s heritage.<\/p>\n
