The brief for the terminal transformation was to create a Tasmanian ‘sense of place’ through the use of natural materials in the fit-out and a celebration of Launceston and Tasmania in the selection of locally sourced products. Buchan’s design vision was to create a space that responded to the functional brief while capturing the Tasmanian story, celebrating the rich culture of food, wine and whiskey, the arts and crafts and the deep connection with history and the landscape.

The essence of the natural environment surrounding the airport is captured in the feature timber ceiling and glass façade, which showcase striking views of the airport and mountains.
