Grand Designs Live – wrap up

The Institute in partnership with Diversified Exhibitions developed an architecture hub within the Grand Building section for both Grand Designs Live in Sydney and Melbourne, held late October. Taking inspiration from the TV series, Grand Designs Live featured Kevin McCloud and Australian host Peter Maddison, along with key Lifestyle Channel personalities.

The Architecture Hub featured the popular Ask an Architect sessions supported by Archicentre. Consumers brought along their plans, ideas and questions to the hub and spent 30 minutes talking through their options with an architect. Also on the stand were Architext Bookshop selling a broad range of design and architecture books and Architecture Media promoting Houses magazine.
A people’s choice competition showcased the shortlisted residential properties from the 2013 National Architecture Awards and allowed us to build our consumer database for the future.

The Architecture Hub had a constant flow of people, at times queuing for the chance to ask an architect about bringing their dream home to life. Access to the updated Find an Architect website was accessible by iPad from the hub.

The purpose-built Architecture Hub was designed by Carrspace and created with the assistance of Interface Australia who provided flooring from their new range, Planks.

Introducing Daniel Jürgens – presenter NSS6

I am looking forward to facilitating this series of seminars presenting the truth behind the promise of BIM. We have a panel of seasoned practitioners in varying sectors across the lifecycle of a building who will be discussing their actual experiences on BIM projects, what does and doesn’t work, what they have learnt and what they would do differently on the next project. This is not a BIM sales pitch; this is an honest unbiased discussion from those who are delivering BIM right now.’

Daniel Jürgens
National BIM Manager, Cox Architecture

Daniel leads the integration of digital design applications and is the national Building Information Modelling (BIM) manager for Cox Architecture. Daniel leads technology research and development initiatives and works with project teams to ensure the successful implementation of BIM.

Daniel jointly authored the Australian Institute of Architects BIM in practice whitepapers, was part of the industry advisory consultation for the NATSPEC BIM guide and currently is on the Collaborate and buildingSMART national BIM initiative working groups. Among other things, Daniel is a beta tester for a number of Autodesk products and lectures regularly at industry events, ensuring that latest thinking in BIM methodologies is applied to each project undertaken by Cox Architecture.

Daniel’s industry experience has allowed him to build a reputation as a leader in his field.

Daniel is facilitating the seminar series BIM Use in Design, Construction and Facilities Management nationally from Oct 23 to Nov 21.

During this networking lunch, a panel consisting of BIM experts will discuss how they have applied, used and integrated BIM processes and BIM thinking through each stage of project delivery. Learn practical BIM applications and how others are investing in BIM through case studies and lessons learnt.

Visit the National Seminar Series webpage for details.
