Hi All
We have been working on several government submissions around non-conforming building products and the “Building Confidence” Shergold Weir report. In collaboration with the national team we have submitted a formal response to the Permanent labelling of ACP product Discussion Paper which can be read here and will this week submit a letter to Minster de Brenni supporting the 24 recommendations in the Shergold Weir report and asking him to commit to implementing the recommendations within QLD regulation and legislative frameworks. In addition this week Paul and myself will meet with MP Michael Hart Shadow Minister for Housing and Public Works as well as MP Andrew Powell Shadow Minster for Infrastructure and planning as part of the Chapters commitment to building relationships with both sides of government. For those that haven’t read the Shergold Weir report you can do so here .
Tomorrow we are hosting a lunch time Practice forum for any architects involved in government work. The speakers include
- Harry Venmans, Executive Director of Building Construction and Maintenance
- Logan Timms, Executive Director of Building Industry and Policy and Maintenance and
- Mike Essery, Acting Director of Building Industry and Policy.
The forum will cover Govt procurement and pipelines, non-conforming building products and the Building industry fair payment act. There are still tickets available to attend and this is a great opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback, good bad or other wise to government regarding current policy and regulation. You can buy tickets here.
Don’t forget this week we kick off with the first night of our “Out There” speaker series. Thursday nights presenters include the architects behind ‘The Stores’ Cavill Architects in conjunction with Jasper Brown Architects, ‘The Science Place’ by Hassell and ‘Stradbroke House’ By Tim Bennetton Architects in association with Gabrielle Poole. We are very happy to announce that Gabrielle Poole will be joining us on Thursday to present alongside Tim Bennetton. This is an excellent opportunity to hear from this years named awards winners and the stories that led them to their designs. You can purchase tickets here.
Last but by no means least we have released tickets for our Regional Roadshow Events, the first of which is Townsville on August 10th, followed by the Sunshine Coast on August 17th and Central QLD (Rockhampton) on August 24th. Paul, Courtney and myself will be attending these events so it will be a great opportunity to let us know how to best meet the needs of members in these regions, along with hearing some great presentations from 2 award winning architects.
