Sounds exciting, so what’s it all about?

You are invited to participate in the first of our planned 2013 world architecture day events.
QVHT is an experimental collaborative project for architects, graduates and architecture students in Queensland. As far as we know this has not been tried before so we ask for a special effort to make it a success; a delightful surprise to the world … from Queenslanders!

We will be making small pieces of virtual architecture on tiny sites; these are called maquettes. A montage will be made of the entries resulting in a Virtual Hill Town.

The result of this “virtual collaboration” will be the publication of a catalogue of entries, images, perhaps an animation to uniquely publicise architecture and architects in Queensland. The SketchUp files will be uploaded to Google warehouse from where they can be freely downloaded and explored in 3d. The launch to the media is planned for Friday 4th October, prior to World Architecture Day on 7th October. There is a nominal entry fee which will be used to cover curating outlays.

The objectives of the collaboration are to:

– Create something big out of small inputs from the Queensland architectural community.

– Create an environment for healthy design competition and design research totally outside the normal strictures of practice and study.

– Collectively make something which can be published and discussed, representing a slice of our unique Queensland and Australian sensibility.

– Demonstrate an engagement with urban issues and contribute a discourse about creative urban design, especially of small sites.

What you do:

1. Download a free version of Google SketchUp

2. Open and work over the template SketchUp file that is provided

3. Decide if you want to structure your participation to earn 3 Formal CPD points (more information)

4. Follow the rules

5. Submit your finished maquette
