Sustainability connects the biological, physical, social, economic, cultural and aesthetic aspects of the environment. The Committee brings together interested architects in developing the profession’s and the community’s understanding of sustainability. The committee seeks to:
- promote architecture as the leader in sustainability
- promote good design as essential to sustainability;
- encourage and support the education of architectural students in sustainability;
- facilitate sustainable and sustaining actions through educational events and provide input into government policy and regulation.
February 2019 Meeting (12/02/2019)
The Sustainability Committee continued their discussions and planning for the “Can we regulate Sustainability?” debate that is occurring on the 28th February 2018. The committee confirmed the speakers, worked on setting the format of the evening and discussed possible discussion points for the presentation.
In the middle of 2018 the committee put forward recommendations for National Council for changes to the Sustainability category in the QLD awards. The committee anticipates these recommendations will be discussed at the National Council meeting over the 21st and 22nd of February.
The committee will meet again in March and plan to set objectives for the committee in 2019, review feedback from the Sustainability debate and discuss the outcome of the national Council meeting regarding the committees recommendations.
