Last Workshop & Apartment, Battery Point
Recycling, re-use and allowing the history of the space to remain intact – have become part of a greater strategy to create a multidisciplinary space as workshop and apartment, which is distinctively individual and removed from the immediate historic Battery Point context. Last Architects’ interior design objectives have allowed the original building fabric to influence the new and, as such, each activity has a separate expression and multiple use at any one time. It is important to note that during the purchase of the property the workshop was subject to a stratum title development approval process. The site is located in one of Australia’s most historic suburbs, within easy walking distance to Salamanca Place. The neighbouring property is residential, and the workshop has existing commercial use rights. Lateral thinking with a creative building surveyor created a multiple use apartment/exhibition and events space. The space can be adapted for art exhibitions and events, product launches, and visiting international artists who may lease the space. We envisage pushing the boundaries in experiential tourism.
