Expressing the primary intention to connect with the surrounding environment and instilled with the principles of passive design, the Lane House sits comfortably along the site contours. It connects with the surrounding landscape through the use of stone and water elements incorporated throughout the internal and external aesthetic of the space. The timber continues to soften, reflecting the silver palette of the living trees embedded along the site, whilst the stone continues to perform both as thermal mass heat bank and a visual interest in the façade. The curved roof invites attention outwards towards the bush, whilst allowing a story of light to play out on the changes in the ceiling space in the living area. The sun space, with high thermal mass flooring, moderates the temperature of the house throughout the seasons, with outdoor living areas on both the north and south sides providing opportunities for entertaining all year round. Large sliding glass doors enable an uninterrupted view to the outdoors whilst allowing for cross ventilation during the warmer summer months.
