Trinity Hill Youth Accommodation & Training Facility
The Trinity Hill Youth Accommodation and Training Facility has been developed by Housing Tasmania to provide safe and secure long term housing, on-site support, and training and education opportunities for youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, on low income, or living with a significant and permanent disability. The development centres around a heritage listed building, the old Trinity Hill State School (c1885), which has been re-purposed to create a community hub with recreational and training facilities. The project has involved removal of surrounding structures allowing the original building to regain its pre-eminence on the site. New building elements adjacent have been respectfully scaled to be subservient to the existing building and detailed to contact lightly with its historic fabric. Internal works have included removal of introduced partitions to restore the primary spaces to their original configuration, restoration of an original arched opening between the two main rooms and the restoration of timber floors, ceilings and dados. External works have been kept to a minimum and concentrate on preservation, with roof repairs and rainwater goods replaced. Landscaping has been designed to enhance the building surrounds and provide useful courtyard space and integrated heritage interpretation opportunities.
